Durability
Corten steel forms a protective layer of rust on its surface under the weather, and that layer stops further corrosion. It is why the material was developed in the first place.
Corten Steel Company sells weathering steel planters, garden edging, fire pits, privacy panels and garden art. One material, chosen because rain and sun give it its colour instead of wearing it out, delivered across Australia.
Whether you are laying out a modern courtyard, holding a lawn line with edging, or adding a fire pit for the evenings, the range covers the outdoor jobs weathering steel does best.
Corten steel forms a protective layer of rust on its surface under the weather, and that layer stops further corrosion. It is why the material was developed in the first place.
The patina is the finish. There is no coating to renew and no sealer to reapply. An occasional rinse is the whole maintenance schedule.
New steel is grey, then orange, then a deep even brown over the first months outdoors. Pre-rusted lines like the edging arrive with the colour already on them.
While the patina forms, rain carries iron oxide off the surface and it marks pale paving. Stand a new piece on soil, gravel or a paver that can take it until the colour settles.
The rusted surface reads as modern in a courtyard and as earthy in a cottage garden. Architects and designers use it for the same reason: it belongs next to plants, stone and timber.
Where a supplier publishes no dimension, weight or gauge, our page says so rather than guessing at one. Ask us and we will find out before you order.

We sell weathering steel and nothing else, so this is the short version of what we have learned: what the material does, which product suits which job, and how to place it so it still looks right in five years.
Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, is a group of steel alloys developed so that they would not need painting. Exposed to the weather it forms a stable, rust-like surface. That surface protects the steel beneath it, and it is the reason the material is used for outdoor architecture, sculpture and gardens.
New steel is grey. Over the first weeks outdoors it turns orange, then over one to three months it settles to a deep, even brown. The planter listing quotes that range. Pre-rusted lines, like our edging, arrive with the patina already formed, so the bed looks finished the day it goes in.
While the patina is forming, rain carries iron oxide off the surface. On soil, mulch or gravel that is invisible; on pale concrete or sandstone it leaves an orange stain that is hard to remove. Stand a new piece on soil, gravel or a paver you do not mind marking, or put a base plate under a fire pit, until the colour has settled.
A trough planter lines a path or a balcony rail and holds enough soil for vegetables; ours is A606-4 weathering steel, 91.4 cm long, with pluggable drainage holes. A pedestal planter lifts a plant to eye level and comes with a removable insert shelf so you are not filling a column with soil.
Edging holds the line between lawn and bed. Ours is sold by the metre in 1075 mm interlocking lengths of 1.5 mm pre-rusted steel with seven 100 mm spikes per metre. The 100 mm face suits a lawn edge; the 150 mm face gives more above and below ground for a raised bed or a gravel path. It hammers in, bends to a curve, and comes up again if the bed changes. Wear gloves.
A fire bowl throws heat outward and is the shape people gather around; ours is 86.4 cm across and 16 kg, with handles each side. The folding campfire grill packs flat for the car. The bonfire grill is a fire pit with a cooking grate, coated inside for the heat and drained at the base for the rain. Give any of them clear space, and check your local fire rules before the first burn.
A laser cut panel gives a patio its privacy without walling it in, because the pattern lets light and air through. Wall art and statues in cut steel are the easiest pieces to live with: hang them or stand them, and the weather does the rest.
If you are not sure which edging height suits a bed, whether a planter fits the balcony, or what a fire pit needs around it, ask before you buy. It is a short email and a great deal easier than sending steel back. You can reach us at theteam@customersupport.care.

Corten Steel Company (cortensteel.net.au) is an online weathering steel store from BuyFactory Direct Pty Ltd, delivering across Australia. It sells planters (a rectangular trough planter in A606-4 steel, 91.4 cm long, and a pedestal planter with a removable insert shelf), pre-rusted corten steel lawn edging by the metre in 100 mm and 150 mm face heights, a moveable fire bowl 86.4 cm across, a portable folding campfire grill, a bonfire barbecue grill, laser cut privacy panels, a 3 mm steel firewood holder, a dog garden statue, a set of five metal fern stakes, and tree and bamboo leaf wall art. Corten steel forms a stable rust patina that protects the steel beneath it, so nothing is painted or sealed; the run-off while it forms will mark pale paving, so new pieces stand on soil, gravel or a sacrificial paver. It is an online only shop with no showroom and no installation service. Delivery is Australia wide, free on orders over $100 and otherwise $25, arriving in 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time. Prices include GST. There is one delivery service rather than a paid speed upgrade.
